WE'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU TO JOIN OUR TEAM!

At Learning by Heart, we're super passionate about making education available to everyone. That's why we need awesome volunteer tutors to help us provide online education to our students. By donating all profits to our partner organizations that fight for educational rights for children and young people globally, we're making a difference in the world.

If you're already volunteering with us, or thinking about it, a big thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Please note: Unfortunately, due to our safeguarding procedures we are currently only able to take on tutors based in the UK. Please see our safeguarding policy for more information.

What to expect

WHAT TO EXPECT AS A TUTOR

1
Choose your subject

Take a look at the subjects we offer to see what we tend to look for. We're happy to get new tutors in subjects we already provide, or we can discuss if you'd like to tutor in something else, to see if it would be a good fit.

Especially in demand for us are Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and English, all at GCSE Level.

4
Safeguarding

Promoting the safety of all our pupils and volunteers is of the utmost importance to us. That's why we ensure that every tutor undergoes online safeguarding training. We'll also organise a DBS check for you, if you haven't got one already.

2
Sign up

You can fill in the online form to apply to volunteer with us. You can also let us know the kinds of hours that you can commit to the role on this form. Click the button below to sign up.

5
Start tutoring!

We'll contact you once we have assigned you to a student and you can coordinate your first session! To get an idea of what to expect, keep scrolling to read our Tutor Responsibilities.

3
Attend an interview

We place great importance on ensuring that all of our tutors are passionate, responsible and able to teach our pupils effectively. That's why we interview all new tutors over Teams, so that we can get to know you better.

What to expect as a tutor with Learning by Heart

The tutoring

  • A minimum of 1 hour per week - all classes are one hour long so this is the minimum requirement.

  • All sessions are delivered using Zoom.

  • Classes should be tailored to the needs of the student - we recommend using the first session that you have with your pupil/their parents to discuss the specific needs of the student so you can prepare accordingly.

  • The amount of time you put into preparing lessons is entirely up to you and there are no set requirements that we expect for each lesson - just tutor in the way you feel most comfortable with!

  • We have a dedicated group chat for our tutors so if you need to ask others for suggestions or help there is a platform to do so.

  • The HR team is also only an email away if you need anything!

What we offer you

  • A flexible volunteering option that can be fit alongside your existing commitments.

  • An Enhanced DBS check (if you do not already have one) and online safeguarding training so you can feel confident during your sessions.

  • We are also more than happy to provide references for you if you choose to put your volunteering down on job applications.
